A recent study conducted in England suggests that adopting a diet of 600 calories daily for a period of eight weeks, a picture can reverse type 2 diabetes in patients newly diagnosed with the disease. The study, published in the journal Diabetologia, showed that by this radical diet of very few calories, you can reduce the storage of fat in the blood and pancreas.
However, it should not in any way be made without medical care, at risk of severe malnutrition. The study involving 11 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for about four years. Of these patients, 7 were free of disease after being submitted to the diet of 600 calories per three weeks. And even after return to normal diet, these patients had stable levels of insulin. The researchers reported that it is necessary to continue studies to see how long the effect lasts.
According to the director of the Center for Magnetic Resonance, University of Newcastle, Roy Taylor, the experiment was designed to test the hypothesis that, in losing weight, it is possible to eliminate diabetes. Taylor also reported that Roy does not recommend the diet because it is too restrictive.
The development of type 2 diabetes occurs when insulin production, responsible for the breakdown of sugar molecules in the blood is inadequate or when the body is produced incorrectly, causing a buildup of sugar in the body. A diet based on daily intake of 600 calories made to research participants radically diminished caloric intake for a period of two months.
Participants consumed only liquid dietary food and vegetables without starch. After only one week of adoption of the diet, researchers have found that levels of sugar in the blood of the participants had returned to normal before the ingestion of breakfast. |
